Uzbekistan aims to boost production, exports of key pharmaceuticals

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, December 1. Uzbekistan aims to increase localization of medical production to 35 percent, achieved through the manufacturing of 50 of the most widely used medications within the country, Trend reports.

The issue was discussed during the meeting between Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the representatives of the country’s pharmaceutical industry.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the need to accelerate the construction of the Tashkent Farm Park cluster and attract a private investments to the project. Moreover, pharmaceutical companies will be helped to switch to the international GMP standard and create labeling systems.

The pharmaceutical companies in Uzbekistan currently have 173 projects on the pipeline worth $1.5 billion, $600 million of which is planned to be allocated from the state budget.

As a result of the implementation of projects in 2024, it is planned to establish production of $400 million and export of $160 million.

Earlier this year, while in Germany, Uzbek delegation specialized in the manufacturing of medical devices and Siemens Healthineers, have agreed on the supply of medical equipment to Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the parties discussed practical aspects of the supply of necessary medical equipment to public and private medical institutions in Uzbekistan, the creation of service centers for its maintenance, joint training of specialists, and the introduction of innovative technologies in the field of medicine.
