TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 18. Austria’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi will visit Uzbekistan, Trend reports via Uzatom Agency.
"Preparations are actively underway for the IAEA Director General's visit to Uzbekistan to ensure successful meetings and strengthen bilateral cooperation," the agency stated.
Additionally, a meeting took place in Vienna between the director of the Atomic Energy Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, Azim Akhmedkhadjaev, and Rafael Grossi.
Key issues regarding the development of nuclear energy in Uzbekistan were discussed during the meeting, including the reorganization of Uzatom and a project for constructing a small modular nuclear power plant.
Preliminary work on this project has commenced in collaboration with Russia's State Atomic Energy Corporation, Rosatom, and in full accordance with IAEA recommendations. The support for a trilateral approach to the project was confirmed to ensure compliance with international safety standards.
Moreover, plans for joint IAEA events focused on nuclear technologies, including small modular reactors, were considered to highlight the international significance of these technologies and attract interest from other nations.
