Iranian Interior Minister Resigns

Azerbaijan, Baku, 10 April / corr. Trend D. Khatinoglu/ Mustafa Pirmuhammadi, the interior minister of Iran resigned on 10 April, reported IRNA new agency quoting Golamhuseyn Ilham, the government press-secretary.

This is the second resignation by high ranking Iranian government officials since last week when the minister of finance Davud Danishjafari resigned on 8 April.

Ilham denied information in the media regarding the replacement of ministers although he described the information as a 'provocation scenario against the economic plans of government'. He confirmed the resignation of officials on 10 April and does not consider the resignation of the minister as a breach of stability in the country.

During the three year tenure of Mahmud Ahmadinejad as president, the minister of oil and industry, education, social security and welfare have been relieved from their positions at their own wish or on the government's insistence. The heads of the Central Bank, Council on Security, Organization for Programming and other government bodies of Iran have been dismissed to date.

The Iranian media also released information regarding the resignation of Manuchohr Mottaki, the foreign minister; however, Tehran has denied this information.
