France, Britain slam Chabahar attack

France and Britain have denounced the recent terrorist attack in the southeastern Iranian city of Chabahar, which killed and injured scores of people, PressTV reported.

At least 33 people, including women and children, were killed and 83 others were wounded in an attack, which occurred at the Imam Hussein mosque in Chabahar on Wednesday.

People were commemorating the martyrdom of the third Shia Imam.

France shared Iran's grief after it "was again plunged into mourning by particularly odious terrorism which targeted a place of worship during the ceremony of Ashura," AFP quoted French Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero as saying on Wednesday.

Chabahar Governor Ali Bateni announced earlier on Wednesday that Iran's security and civil forces had arrested one of the perpetrators of the attack.

"I was appalled to hear of today's horrific bomb attack in Iran against pilgrims marking Ashura in the city of Chabahar," British Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt said Wednesday.

"The UK strongly condemns this atrocity. We deplore terrorism in all its forms. Our thoughts are with all those injured and their families."

Jordanian King Abdullah II condemned the attack and "stressed Jordan's support for the brotherly Iranian people to overcome their terrible ordeal."

The terrorist group Jundallah has claimed responsibility for the attack, the Arabic-language al-Arabiya satellite news channel reported earlier on Wednesday.

Jundallah, a Pakistan-based terrorist group, has carried out numerous bombings, assassination attempts, and terrorist attacks in Iran.

Its leader Abdolmalek Rigi was arrested by Iranian intelligence forces in February 2010 and executed in June for 79 counts of crimes, including armed robbery, bombing operations and armed attacks on police and civilians.
