Belarus, Iran considering joint interdenominational projects

Commissioner for Religions and Nationalities Leonid Gulyako met with Mohsen Ghomi, Deputy Head for International Affairs of the Office of the Supreme Leader of Iran, in Minsk on 4 February, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Commissioner's Office for Religions and Nationalities.

Partaking in meeting was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Belarus Abdollah Hosseini.

The sides exchanged views on the role of the denominations in the life of the society and the state on the whole. Leonid Gulyako informed the participants of the meeting on the country's activities to consolidate the Belarusian multifaith society, on participation of different denominations in the social and cultural projects of the civil society and the Republic of Belarus, the activity of the Interdenominational Advisory Council under the Commissioner for Religions and Nationalities, legislative regulations of the confessional relations in Belarus.

The Iranian side praised the work done in Belarus to develop constructive cooperation between the state and different denominations and a positive experience of the interethnic and intercultural dialogue between denominations.

The Iranian officials expressed readiness to consider and implement joint international projects on sharing experience in the interdenominational and intercultural dialogue at different cooperation levels, and other projects aimed at spiritual development of the civil society, first of all the youth, in Belarus and Iran.
