Fishermen in Iran's Gilan Province saw that their annual catch increased by 12.4 percent in the fishing season ending in early April, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reports.
Gilan Province is in north-western Iran and borders the Caspian Sea.
The 4,950 ton catch for the season marked the first increase in fish caught over the several years.
Last year (Iran's solar year ended on March 19), Iran's Fisheries Organization (Shilat) released more than 200 million bony and sturgeon fry into the Caspian Sea which led to the greater catch this year.
Shilat will raise 50 tons of trout in the Caspian Sea this year.
