Domestic firms will soon sign contracts to build 12 onshore drilling rigs for Iran's oil industry.
Iran already has 100 onshore drilling rigs, but needs more due to fields having reached theri half-life, while others need to be drilled to keep up production, Shana quotes Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi as saying.
Based on the projections, Iran needs 100 more drilling rigs. It will import the rigs for joint oil fields only because it can't afford to delay their development, Qasemi said.
