Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that Iran views Turkmenistan's progress and welfare as if it were its own.
At a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, President Ahmadinejad said that the two neighbors' future economic and cultural cooperation would benefit both of them, Fars news agency reports.
An example of successful cooperation between the two countries is the Iran-Turkmenistan-Khazakstan railway, the Iranian President said.
Iranian officials attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's (SCO) summit on June 6-7. Iran has an observer status at the SCO.
During the two-day visit, President Ahmadinejad plans to meet with China's President Hu Jintao and Russia's President Vladimir Putin.
