Tunisia has asked for Iran's help to build 30,000 residential units.

The request came from Tunisia's Minister of Industry, Mohammed Amine Chakhari, when he met with his Iranian counterpart Mehdi Ghazanfari who was in Tunisia for the 11th Joint Tunisian Iranian Cooperation Commission, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reports.

Both countries' housing ministries will evaluate Tunisia's request for Iran's help in building housing. If the project moves ahead, Iran's private sector will be asked to participate.

At the two ministers' meeting, Mr. Chakahri said post-revolution Tunisia is taking big steps toward industrial and trade growth and needs help from countries that are "brothers and friends" like Iran.

Tunisia welcomes help from Iran's private sector and its government, country's Industry Minister said.

Mining, energy, auto manufacturing, health and medications, oil and petrochemicals are some of the areas Tunisia hopes Iran will invest in.

In January 2011, Tunisians overthrew their government in a popular uprising and elected a new government during October 2011 elections.
