Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei asked the country's parliamentary members not to question Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Mehr reported.
"If this issue goes any further, it will be exactly what Iran's enemies want," Khamenei said. "Therefore I ask the parliamentary members not to continue this case."
Khamenei made the remarks at the meeting with the members of country's Basij civilian forces.
After the Leader's speech, MP Avaz Heydarpour of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee said that the representatives who signed a document for Ahmadinejad's questioning, withdrawed their signatures.
Earlier this month, 77 MPs were reported to have signed a document for Ahmadinejad's questioning.
On October 23, MPs decided to summon Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to parliament to answer a number of questions regarding Iran's economy.
Turbulence in the foreign exchange market, problems gripping the industrial sector, mismanagement in the mining sector, and also problems facing poultry and egg production were among the major reasons behind the impeachment moves.
