Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad congratulated the leaders of Christian countries with Christmas and New Year, Iran's television IRIB News website reported.
Ahmadinejad also spread congratulations on the occasion of the birth of Jesus.
"I believe that the only way out of the crisis is to return to lofty teachings of the great prophet of God," Ahmadinejad said.
The president also expressed hope that the new year will be the year of hope and prosperity.
In his message, Ahmadinejad noted that with collective effort, people will be able to establish peace and prosperity for all, and justice based on morality and compassion.
