Former Iranian Vice-President Ruhollah Ahmadzadeh Kermani announced that he would run in the upcoming presidential election, Fars News rerported.

Ahmadzadeh Kermani announced his candidacy here in Tehran on Tuesday before embarking on a visit to the holy city of Qom to meet with senior clerics and religious authorities.

During his visit to Qom, Ahmadzadeh Kermani is slated to meet senior clerics Ayatollah Hossein Nouri Hamedani, Ayatollah Alawi Gorgani and Ayatollah Seyed Mohammad Baqer Movahed Abtahi.

In September, the Iranian interior ministry announced that the country will hold the 11th presidential election on June 14, 2013.

The presidential hopefuls will register from May 7 to 11.
