In Iran, 30 percent of people living in big cities suffer from diabetes, or will suffer from the disease in the future, chairman of the Iranian Diabetes Society Asadullah Rezheb informed the ILNA news agency on Saturday.

In Iran, 30 percent of people living in big cities suffer from diabetes, or will suffer from the disease in the future, chairman of the Iranian Diabetes Society Asadullah Rezheb informed the ILNA news agency on Saturday.

Rezheb said seven million people are currently suffering from diabetes, and most of them are unaware of their disease.

According to him, the study conducted found that over 14 percent of Iran's population over age 20 suffers from diabetes. Rezheb noted that this is a figure for people suffering from latent form of the disease, and the disease will manifest itself in the future.

According to the chairman of the society, over 16 percent of population of the cities Bushehr and Yazd suffers from diabetes. The number of people suffering from this disease has increased in the northern part of Iran as well.
