Former Iranian president Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said oil income should be channeled into the production sector and a portion of it should be reserved to deal with critical situations, ILNA reported.

Through employing efficient and experienced manpower, the country's needs in the industry and trade sectors should be met, he added.

Unfortunately, in recent years, oil income have been mostly used to import goods instead of supporting domestic producers, Rafsanjani said.

Rafsanjani, who is the chairman of the Expediency Council, expressed hope that the change in the political management of the country would help resolve problems in the mentioned sectors.

The disqualification of Rafsanjani for the presidential elections caused many reactions from the society. Rafsanjani said that a security official had attended the Guardian Council meeting and convinced members to disqualify him under the pretext of unfit physical condition.

On May 6, Rafsanjani said that he will take part in the upcoming presidential elections if he gets the consent of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran's eleventh presidential elections were held on June 14. On Saturday, Reformist candidate Hassan Rohani was officially named as Iran's next president with 50.7 per cent of the votes.
