Iran has began a naval exercise in the Caspian Sea dubbed "Sustainable Security 2013".
According to commanders, the five-day drill is designed to protect naval routes, provide security for merchant ships and tankers and prepare military and port facilities for possible threats, the Fars News Agency reported.
The drill stretches across the port cities of Astara, Noshahr, Anzali, and Amir Abad.
The exercise is meant to convey a message of peace and friendship to other countries and is being carried out in cooperation with the naval forces of Gilan and Mazandaran provinces.
