Iran plans to send a 5000 workforce overseas

Some 5000 Iranian workers will be sent to regional countries in the current solar year which began on March 21, the Iranian deputy labour and social affair minister Ali-Akbar Labbafi said, IRNA news agency reported.

"Last solar year Iran has sent some 1320 workers to 10 countries in the region," Labbafi said.

In recent years there has been a great potential for sending the skilled labour force overseas and this capacity should be used to increase employment among Iranian labour, IRNA quoted Labbafi as saying.

Previously, Iranian deputy labour and social affair minister Khalil Sadeqinia had stated that, some 6000 Iranian workers will be sent overseas in the current year.

The workers will be sent to Turkey, Iraq, Australia, Canada, and some European countries, Sadeqinia, had noted.

Iran's unemployment rate in the autumn of 2012 hit 11.2 per cent, down 0.6 per cent compared to the figure in the previous autumn, IRNA reported, citing the Iranian Statistics Centre.

The unemployment rate was 11.1 per cent in the spring, the report said. During the previous year, the nation's working age population was 25 million, the report says.

Over three million of Iran's working population is unemployed.
