Iranian defense minister responds to statement of US Secretary of Defense
Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 8
By Temkin Jafarov - Trend:
Results in diplomacy achieved on the basis of mind, not power, Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan said, ISNA reported.
Dehghan's remarks followed recent statements by US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel. Hagel said that diplomacy with Iran must be backed up by Washington's military power.
According to Dehghan, Hagel's statement , bearing a threatening nature, devoid of reason and logic. These statements are always condemned by the international community, he added.
Iranian defense minister also added that Hagel's speech proved that the U.S. sold arms to Persian Gulf countries and established Iranophobia project in region.
U.S. did not think about security in the region, but only about their own interests, minister added.
Iran's defense minister urged Persian Gulf countries not fall for such traps and be more careful.
The US defense secretary made the covert threats against the Islamic Republic while Iran, unlike the US, has not waged a war against any country in its modern history.
On November 24, Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - Russia, China, France, Britain and the US -- plus Germany clinched an interim deal over the Islamic Republic's nuclear energy program in the Swiss city of Geneva.
The six-month accord will lay the groundwork for a comprehensive resolution of the West's decade-old nuclear dispute with Tehran.
