BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 16. During the 11th month of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 - February 19, 2024), the volume of cargo handled at the Kangan port in Bushehr province, situated in southern Iran, surged by 42% compared to the corresponding period last year, revealed Abdulmohammed Naderi, Director of Iran's Kangan Port and Maritime Administration, Trend reports.

Naderi disclosed that a total of 88,930 tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at the Kangan port over the 11-month period.

Highlighting ongoing developments at the port, Naderi noted the finalization of construction works on the breakwater. The completion of this breakwater is anticipated to significantly enhance loading and unloading operations at the port. Upon its commissioning, the sea area of the Kangan port is set to expand from 2 hectares to 5 hectares, while the mooring channels will deepen from 4.5 meters to 7 meters. Consequently, the port will accommodate ships with a capacity of up to 2,000 tons.

Commissioned in 2012, Kangan port currently houses three berths. Development initiatives for the port commenced in 2019.
