BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 24. Iran intends to increase its agricultural areas to a total of 2 million hectares by 2028 to grow agricultural products outside the country, the representative of Iran's Ministry of Agriculture, representative of Iran's Ministry of Agriculture Aghareza Fotouhi said, Trend reports.

According to him, this goal is embedded in the four-year (2024-2028) program of Iran's economic development.

Fotouhi stated that, on this basis, Iran plans to grow crops on 400,000 ha of agricultural land in different countries in the current year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025).

“Iran plans to grow agricultural products outside the country—in Iraq, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Russia, and African and Latin American countries,” he emphasized.

He noted that Iran aims to utilize the capabilities of foreign entities and Iranian investors living abroad in this field.

Fotuhi went on to say that, given the country's limited water and land resources, climate change, and population expansion, investment in agriculture is mostly focused on growing agricultural products outside of the country.

The source emphasized that Iran has begun growing agricultural products outside the nation since 2016. Iran grows agricultural products on 40,000 to 50,000 hectares in some nations, including Brazil.

To note, Iran grows an average of more than 130 million tons of agricultural products per year.
