(IRNA) - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here on Thursday expressed confidence the people will come out in great numbers for next Friday's elections in a show of pride and glory for the entire world to notice.

Addressing a huge gathering of people in the northern city of Babolsar, he stressed that a high turn-out in the elections will be a manifestation of national awareness and determination to reach the zenith of development and progress, reports Trend.

Pointing to the importance of the local elections that are to be held simultaneously with the Experts of Assembly elections, he reminded that the Assembly of Experts is the highest body exercising supervision over the country's affairs, while government derives its grassroots support from village and city councils.

He described the fourth round of Experts Assembly elections and third round of village and city councils elections slated to be held on December 15 as major events of the country that could prove to be turning points for society.

The Iranian president then urged the nation to elect committed and pious people in the upcoming polls.

President Ahmadinejad, accompanied by members of his cabinet, arrived in Sari, capital of northern Mazandaran province, Tuesday morning for another of his visits to various provinces of the country.

He and his cabinet ministers will hold a session here later this afternoon to discuss the province's problems and needs before they return to Tehran.
