Iran-Saudi cooperation to guarantee regional security

( IRNA ) - Saudi Minister of Education Abdullah bin Salih al-Obeid said here Tuesday that expansion of cooperation between Iran and Saudi Arabia would guarantee regional security and stability.

Al-Obeid made the statement in a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Riyadh Mohammad Hosseini.

He said relying on common religion, culture and historical affinity and avoiding provocative issues can open bright horizon for expansion of regional cooperation.

The Saudi minister expressed confidence in mutual ties on all fields particularly, in cultural and educational areas could be a new model for states in the region.

Hosseini, for his part, said Iran and Saudi Arabia have always played an influential role in the region and among Islamic countries.

He added successful visit of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Riyadh last March and holding Iran's exclusive exhibition in Riyadh, conclusion of agreements between businessmen of the two countries showed a growing trend of mutual relations.

"We are interested in bolstering bilateral ties and cooperation in all fields and establish security and stability through serious participation of regional states," the envoy said.

He added Iran enjoys successful and valuable experience in educational sector based on Islam which could be used by Islamic countries.
