The construction of Sebzevar Steel Plant in northeastern Iran has just progressed by 30 percent although the project kicked off seven years ago.

Due to a lack of funding, the project was stopped for six years, Iran's ISNA news agency reported on September 24.

The plant is projected to produce 800,000-1,000,000 metric tons of steel per year. The project will create 2,500 direct and indirect jobs.

Iran produced 10.63 million metric tons of crude steel in the first eight months of 2014, a 6.9 percent rise compared to the same period in 2013, the World Steel Association (WSA) said in its latest press release.

The country's crude steel output stood at 1.332 million metric tons in August 2014, a 3.1 percent growth compared to August 2013.

World crude steel production for the 65 countries reporting to WSA was 134.956 million metric tons (Mt) in August 2014, an increase of 1.4 percent compared to August 2013.

China, Japan, and the U.S. were the world's leading crude steel producers in August 2014, by producing 68.9 Mt, 9.3 Mt, and 7.6 Mt of the product, respectively.

Iran's crude steel output rose 9 percent in the past Iranian calendar year 1392, which ended on March 20, 2014, compared to the year before.

Iran produced 15.64 million metric tons of crude steel last year.
