Major currencies rise in Iran

The US dollar was sold at 35,830 rials in Iran's free market today, a 530-rial rise compared to Dec. 23.

Euro and pound were sold at 43,880 rials and 55,900 rials, respectively, showing 400 rials and 600 rials rise compared to Dec. 23, Iran's IRNA news agency reported on Dec. 24.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Iran has put official rates of US dollar, euro, and pound at 27,073 rials, 32,962 rials, and 41,998 rials, respectively.

During ex-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's second term, Iran's rial lost its value by about four times.

Each USD was sold at 9,830 rials in 2009, but the figure reached 36,000 in mid-2013, when Hassan Rouhani replaced Ahmadinejad.
