Tax evaders in Iran avoid paying up to $9.68 billion per year, an Iranian official said.

The General Director of the Iranian National Tax Administration (INTA) Seyyed Kamel Taghavinejad said that tax evasion inflicts between $4.2 billion (130 trillion rials) - $9.68 billion (300 trillion rials converted to US dollar according to the official rate on August 4) damage on the government’s economy per year, IRIB news agency reported.

Saying that the tax-to-GDP ratio in Iran stands at 7 percent, Taghavinejad added that the figure would reach 10 percent once the government manages to collect the share from the tax evaders.
