The final permissions for launching new airlines have not been issued, so far, an Iranian aviation official said.

The secretary of the Society of Iranian Airlines (AIRA), Maqsoud Asadi Samani, has said that works are underway to establish six new airlines and two helicopter airlines but they have not received final permissions, yet, Mehr news agency reported.

According to Maqsoud Asadi Samani, the AIRA and the Ministry of Roads and Urban Developments, earlier agreed to permit six new airlines and two new helicopter airlines as per their applications.

Since then, the eight new companies have taken steps to prepare required documents and secure capital ahead of the operation launch, he added.

The airlines must present a qualified fleet of at least 5 aircraft as well as the required capital for operating, noted Maqsoud Asadi Samani.

Iran currently has about 15 domestic passenger airlines and the country plans to increase the number to 23 airlines in future.
