China’s state-owned aluminum producer Chinalco expressed readiness for investment in Iran’s alumina producing projects.

In a meeting with Mehdi Karbasian, head of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), Zhang Chengzhong, deputy head of the Chinese company, said Chinalco is interested to cooperate with Iran in alumina industry, IMIDRO reported Feb. 28.

He added that his company is ready to jointly invest with Tehran in building an alumina powder producing plant in Iran.

Karbasian, for his turn, said that Parsian Energy Intensive Special Zone in southern Iran is suitable for building an alumina plant.

Considering construction of an aluminum plant with production capacity of 300,000 tons per year in the zone, which will become operational by 2019, building plants for providing 1.6 million tons of alumina powder is necessary before the project comes into force, he underlined.

Parsian Energy Intensive Special Zone, with an area of 10,000 hectares in Hormozgan, and Lamerd Special Zone are the zones prepared by IMIDRO to increase the production capacity of major industries, such as aluminum, petrochemical, steel and cement, and other industries.

IMIDRO is preparing necessary facilities for construction of infrastructure, such as private ports, power plants, customs checkpoints, roads, water, electricity, gas and telecommunication facilities for investors of these zones.
