Iran to connect power grids with Russia, Georgia

Iran will connect power grids with Russia and Georgia in the near future, Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian said.

This will facilitate Iran’s power connection to Europe which is a long-term program, he added, Fars news agency reported April 29.

The minister added that Iran plans to install 5,000 megawatts renewable energy power plants in five years.

So far the private sector has signed up for investment in such projects, offering a cumulative amount of $3.6 billion investment, Chitchian stated, adding the Ministry of Energy is planning a tender on renewable power plant construction for plants with outputs greater than 100 megawatts.
