Iran will allocate cheap-rated US dollar to import paper for newspapers, Abolfazl Roghani Golpayegani, head of Iran's Chamber of Commerce's Industries Commission, said.

Roghani Golpayegani‎ said that the Iranian government will pay subsidy for import of paper for newspapers, Iranian media outlets reported June 13.

In April Iran's government decided to unify the country’s official and open market exchange rates. The decision was made following fluctuations in the country after the rial declined to an all-time low.

The government's move to put the price of the US dollar at 42,000 rials in both markets, and for all business activities, led to some problems in paper market.

However, Roghani Golpayegani said that the government has promised to allocate $120 million for paper import with cheap rate, to control the market.

The government will pay some 4,000 rials for import of papers, so the exchange rate for the paper of newspaper will be 38,000 rials per each USD.

Iranians consume about 2 million tons of different types of paper and cardboard, of which 400,000 tons a year are used for publications.

Iran’s paper making industry registered a significant growth in the fiscal year to March 2018, however, production of papers for publications (books, newspapers, magazines, etc.) experienced decline in the period, according to Mohammad Ali Esfandiari, the deputy director of chemical industries office of the Industry, Mine and Trade ministry.

Iran’s overall paper output reached 770,000 tons in the last fiscal year, which was 32 percent more year-on-year.
