Azerbaijani, Iranian customs authorities explore ways to streamline trade

The head of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration Foroud Asgari and his Azerbaijani counterpart Safar Mehdiyev in a meeting discussed ways to facilitate trade and transit of products between the two nations.

During the meeting held in the city of Julfa, Mehdiyev and Asgari stressed the importance of enhanced cooperation between the two countries in the field customs services, IRIB news agency reported on July 15.

They exchanged views about the exiting obstacles in the way of the two countries’ trade and stressed that commercial hurdles need to be removed as soon as possible, according to the report.

Insurance services and the establishment of electronic connection between the customs administrations of Azerbaijan and Iran were also among the major topics discussed between the two sides.

Azerbaijan and Iran have had fruitful diplomatic relations since 1918. Iran recognized Azerbaijan’s independence in 1991 and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992.

Currently, the two countries are focused on expanding economic ties in various fields, including industry, agriculture, energy, alternative energy and transportation.
