In the last Iranian year (March 21, 2018 - March 20, 2019), decorative fish breeding increased by 25 percent in Mahallat county of Iran's Markazi province, said Abdollah Mahmoudi, the head of Mahallat Agricultural Jihad Organization, Trend reports via IRNA.

The number of fish bred in the county reached 10 million in the last year, Mahmoudi said.

The fish were supplied to both local and foreign markets, he added.

The training projects realized in the county positively affected the output, he noted.

Mahmoudi added that 20 species of fish are bred in five fish farming facilities.

Oscar, guppy, parrot fish, discus and angelfish are among those bred in Mahallat county.

Decorative fish fries are supplied from Thailand, Malaysia, as well as Iran's Isfahan and Kashan provinces, Mahmoudi said.

Mahallat county accounts for 16 percent of decorative fish breeding in Iran, he said. However, Mahallat ranks first in Iran in terms of variety of decorative fish, and second after Isfahan in terms of output, he added.

Mahallat is well-known with its decorative stones, fish and flowers.
