Golestan Province is to continue agricultural development projects, said the governor of Golestan Province.

The main topic in the province's agriculture sector is drainage which started in Golestan province in 2013 to increase production, Hadi Haghshenas told Trend in an interview.

"Drainage operation inaugurated at 80,000 hectares land in February 2021 and 90,000 hectares are underway which makes it a total of 170,000 hectares of drainage. Golestan Province is an important agricultural province and it's crucial to have drainage," he noted.

"Another project in province agricultural sector is watershed management, the province has inaugurated watershed management in 100,000 hectares in last Iranian year that would continue in current Iranian year. The funds have been allocated for the construction of the Mirdamad dam in Golestan Province and it is expected that the Ministry of Energy would choose the contractor of this project via tender," he added.

Operations in dam construction, watershed management, and drainage continue in the current Iranian year to help agricultural infrastructure. Golestan Agricultural and Natural Resources Research and Education Center is working to produce modified seeds that are effective in the harvest.

"Golestan Province has exported potato last Iranian year and we continue to export in current Iranian year, other products include citrus and medical herbs while export of chicken reduced due to shortage in the domestic market but if the situation improves the province would export chicken," he said.
