In a message sent to a conference in the northeastern city of Mashad on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif highlighted the importance of Iran's foreign policy towards its neighbors, Trend reports referring to IRNA.
In the message to the confernce dubbed 'Elaboration on Iran's Foreign Policy towards Neighbors Focusing Supreme Leader's Guidelines', Zarif highlighted the leader's remarks saying that his excellency has attached special attention to the importance of neighboring countries in Iran's forign policy.
Zarif referred to a speech delivered by the leader early this year in which Ayatollah Khamenei ealaborated on the issue.
In parts of his speech, the leader said,'Territorial vastitude of our country and adjacency to international open waters are among its potentials. We do not use them completely. One of the two coasts of the Persian Gulf belongs to us. Major part of the Oman Sea is ours. We have 15 neighbors whcih is a great potential for our country. Iran is located in a geographically sensitive place. Iran is the juncture of the east and west, north and south, which is important geographically.'
Elsewhere in his message, Zarif said the precision and importance of the leader's remarks on the issue of neighbors in foreign policy has opened a new chapter both in practical policy and the field of research.
The Mashad conference is the second of its kind. The first was held in Tehran in April 2018, hosted by Allameh Tabatabaee University.
