Tree farming in Iran is improving due to the increase in foreign currency rate and a ban on cutting forest trees, said the Managing Director of tree farming in Forests, Range and Watershed Management Organization.
"The private sector currently pays rent for tree farms and produces saplings that needed in the country. The private sector is managing 27 forest saplings," said Kamran Pourmoghadam, Trend reports citing Tasnim News Agency.
"The tree farming is expected to increase 12 times . It is expected that 40,000 hectares of tree farming would be implemented in current Iranian year(started March 21,2021),"he said.
The Sixth Development Plan predicted a total of 75,000 hectares of tree farming in the last Iranian year (started March 20, 2020) about 22,600 hectares used for tree farming. Studies indicate the country has potential for tree farming in 900,000 hectares. (UNCLEAR)
Increase of foreign currency rate, and rising price of imported tree logs has also effected price of domestic woods as well while harvesting forest trees is banned eventually supportive plans provide advances for tree farming.
The following advances include low interest loans , assigning cheap public lands for long term rent, using industrial waters in areas with water shortage and free sapling distribution created interest in this economic activity.
