Iranian surgeon Fereydoun Khayyamfar has removed the world's largest renal tumor.
The surgery was performed at Mostafa Khomeini Hospital - Shahed University, with assistance from Dr. Farzaneh Golfam, the surgeon told Trend on Nov. 11.
The patient was a 25-year-old woman complaining of stomach pains. Preliminary evaluations revealed a palpable abdominal mass.
Under further examination, the renal mass' dimensions were recorded as 34x22x18 cm and had internal calcification, Khayyamfar explained.
A midline incision was made during the surgery, and the tumor was removed successfully.
The patient was discharged from the hospital five days ago, he noted.
