The Iranian government has a master plan to increase the population of the provinces that are situated by the Persian Gulf to the south.
This was announced by presidential advisor and secretary of the Supreme Council on Free Zones, Akbar Torkan, Tasnim news agency reported February 22.
“The shores of Persian Gulf house only 1.5 million people, that is, only 2 percent of Iran’s population. But we are thinking of making the population grow to 5 million,” Torkan said.
Iran’s population is close to 90 million currently.
Statistics show that about 80 percent of the world population lives near seas and oceans.
