By Ali Mustafayev – Trend:

The successful domestic and foreign policy pursued by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev undoubtedly lays a basis for the results of public pre-election polls, according to which the incumbent President claimed the majority of votes, political scientist, researcher at the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Karavaev told Trend.

"Azerbaijan today - totally different from what it was in 90s-2000s. The country literally turned into an open air museum. The economy of the country steadily grows, and if earlier oil was the main pillar of this development, currently Azerbaijan increases its tourism, transport and logistics potential, and focuses on a number of other spheres, with gradual transition to diversified economy, which is an important part of the current government’s policy, " said Karavaev.

He stressed that political stability and security both within the country and in the context of the region is also one of the most important achievements of the Azerbaijani government.

The expert added that an important part of the positive image of Azerbaijan’s president belongs to his family, which enjoys great popularity among the country’s population.

"The Azerbaijani people love the first lady of the country, Mehriban Aliyeva, who is also known for her social activities. The same sympathy is felt for Leyla Aliyeva and other members of the president's family. In this regard, we cannot fail to mention the love and respect of the Azerbaijani people for the national leader of the country Heydar Aliyev, whose policy is currently being successfully implemented by Ilham Aliyev," he said.

The 6th congress of the New Azerbaijan Party was held in the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku Feb. 8.

The decision was made during the congress to nominate chairman of the party Ilham Aliyev as a presidential candidate. The decision was unanimously adopted. Presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on April 11.
