A "day of silence" was announced before the elections to Yerevan's Council of Elders, to be held in Armenia on Sunday, News-Armenia said today.

According to the Armenian Electoral Code, the election campaign term set by the law, which started on April 7, expired on May 4 at 00:00 local time.

Polling stations will be open from 8:00 am till 20:00 pm local time. The list of voters includes 816,475 people.

The lists of seven parties were registered in the elections.

Yerevan's Council of Elders, which includes 65 people, elects the mayor of the city. According to the legislation, the factions within the Council of Elders are entitled to nominate candidates for the post of mayor. The mayor is to be elected by voting of the council members.
