Documents for Armenia's accession to the Customs Union will be ready by May 2014 when an agreement on the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union will be finished, Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov said today, RIA Novosti reported.

"Experts say that while forming a draft treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union, we can negotiate with the candidates who join the Customs Union that the main provisions of the first level of integration can be agreed upon by May 2014," Shuvalov said at a meeting of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and his deputies.

He recalled that besides Armenia, Kyrgyzstan filed an application for accession.

"We conducted the necessary work to prepare an agreement on the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union by May 2014 and carry out a set of measures for the union to start working from January 1, 2015," Shuvalov added.

Last Tuesday, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan declared the country's decision to join the Customs Union and take the necessary practical steps in this direction, and later to participate in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has supported the decision and expressed Russia's readiness to fully contribute to the process.
