Armenia left without press for uncertain time

Armenia Materials 5 December 2006 11:30 (UTC +04:00)

(azg.am) - In all probability the 90 percent of the periodical press of the republic will not be published from December 7. In the period of closing of Upper Lars pass on 7 June three carriages loaded with paper of about 150 tones belonging to "Tigran Mets" CJSC got stuck in Vladikovkaz. The paper was sent to Armenia from the town by cars. Since the first of November five carriages (250 tones) of paper were already gathered in town of Ilichovsk bordering Russia and Ukraine from where ferry transportation is being carried out, reports Trend.

Vrezh Markosian, the head of "Tigran Mets" CJSC, told Azg: "Paper supplies come to an end and they will be enough till December 7. They have been telling us lies for a month that they will load it today or tomorrow".

The other publishing houses did not raise such alarm but it was not so substantial for that moment as the burden of providing most of the Armenian press with paper is on the shoulders of "Tigran Mets" publishing house.

Only "The Forth Power", "Armenian Time" and "02" papers are not published here. Our authorities interfered in this problem to find a solution only on Friday. "But even if there is an opportunity to load the paper today it will arrive in Armenia only on 9, 10 of December as after the loading it takes 7-8 days to get to Armenia".
