Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has met with Georgian doctors working in the U.S. in New York during his working visit. He said Georgia will soon become a center in Eastern Europe from a medical standpoint.
Speaking about the development of the country's resort areas, Saakashvili said medical tourism has a great potential. At the same time, Saakashvili said there are more opportunities in the country for the return of doctors who are working abroad.
"The medical sector significantly developed in Georgia. Some 150 small and large clinics are opened in Georgia. We intend to create the most advanced medical system in Eastern Europe and former Soviet Union. There are already several large hospitals in Tbilisi. I think that the centers built will be the largest in Eastern Europe," Saakashvili said.
He stressed that Georgia "has become a country with great potential."
He also spoke about the development of resort areas, and noted that Georgia has a great potential of medical tourism.
The visit began on yesterday. He will visit New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. He will participate in the NATO summit in Chicago on May 20-21 and hold other meetings with political and economic circles in the U.S.
