During investigation of the case of senior officials of the Georgian Interior Ministry it was revealed that the Constitutional Security Department created a computer virus, which enabled it to penetrate the computers of Internet users and download personal information.

As the Chief Prosecutor of Georgia Archil Kbilashvili said at a special briefing on Friday, this virus also allowed the production of an audio and video recording in the place where computers were situated.

"Using the developed programme, the leadership of the Constitutional Security Department illegally penetrated into the computers of the leaders of political parties and religious organisations and carried out illegal wiretapping.

"Wiretapping was also made against Irakly Okruashvili, Nino Burjanadze and leaders of the Georgian Dream for their subsequent publication and discrediting of these individuals," Kbilashvili said.

Twelve high-ranking officials of the Interior Ministry were detained over the matter and an investigation continues.
