Georgia, Tbilisi, 1 May / Trend, N. Kirtskhalia /

As a result of intensive negotiations with representatives of the de facto authorities of the secessionist Georgian region of South Ossetia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs released Georgi Dotiashvili who was being detained for border violation.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, he was detained by Russian border guards while pasturing cattle near his home village Kirbali, Gori district on April 22. Dotiashvili was first taken to Gromi, and then to Tskhinvali.

Georgi Dotiashvili, born in 1938, has been released and transported to Georgia.

Large scale military actions were launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.

Russia recognised the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi broke diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
