Tamar Zhvania was elected chairperson of the Georgian Central Election Commission.
This decision was taken by representatives of the Civil Dream coalition on Wednesday. According to the law, they had to choose one of three candidates proposed by the Georgian President.
All six members of the coalition voted for Zhvania.
It should be recalled that Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili proposed three candidates - Tamar Zhvania, Manuchar Gamkrelidze and Konstantin Amiredzhibi for the position of chairman of the Central Election Commission.
"Tamar Zhvania is the most suitable candidate among them," member of the election commission Irakli Horbaladze said. "We are sympathetic to her."
Zhvania said that to increase confidence in the CEC work and to hold the presidential elections on October 27 will be her goal at this position.
"The presidential elections must satisfy the high demands of the Georgian population and the international community," she said.
