Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili will participate at the Vilnius summit of the EU "Eastern Partnership".
"We're going together to the summit and we will take a step towards the EU, albeit more modest than expected," Mikheil Saakahvili said on Wednesday at the presidential palace during the meeting with the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia.
"I am glad that you are here and we are going to Vilnius together. I am grateful to you that we managed to do many things on this way," he said.
"I wish success to the country's new government and president. They should focus on the future and the country's development. No one will be happier than me if the new government achieves success. Their failures will not please me," Saakashvili said.
According to Saakashvili, a two-party system has been formed and a precedent for peaceful transfer of power and cohabitation was created in Georgia.
"The voter turnout was very low. This should be taken into account by the country's new power that should be in a permanent contact with the nation" Saakashvili said.
The president thanked the Georgian people who gave him "an opportunity to serve the nation for nine years".
The Georgian presidential elections were held on October 27. The candidate from the ruling 'Georgian Dream' coalition, Giorgi Margvelashvili won in these elections. After the inauguration that will take place on November 17,Georgia will have a new Prime Minister - the current Interior Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
