Georgia shows positive growth in tourism revenue recovery – TBC Capital

Georgia’s revenues from international visitors from January through October 2021 recovered to 35.4 percent of 2019 level (before the COVID-19 pandemic), Trend reports via the statistical data by the TBC Capital.

According to the report, tourists from Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Israel, and Saudi Arabia increased their expenditures in Georgia in the reporting period of 2021.

The highest revenues recovery from January through October 2021 could be observed from visitors from Ukraine (89 percent recovery), due to the increased number of visitors from Ukraine throughout the year.

The revenues from tourists from Saudi Arabia over the first 10 months of 2021 recovered by 79 percent of the 2019 rate, the report said.

The total Revenues from international visits by the end of October 2021decreased by 65 percent, compared to the same period of 2019 ($3.2 billion).

The revenues per international visitor in Georgia increased significantly in the reporting period of 2021 by approximately 69 percent, compared to the 2019 level, the report said.

The revenues per visit from Russia, Ukraine, and the EU from January through October 2021 increased by more than 25 percent, while the revenues per trip remained almost unchanged for Israel and Saudi Arabia, TBC Capital said.

According to TBC Capital, domestic tourism will continue to play a significant role in Georgia’s tourism recovery in 2022.

TBC Capital expects Georgia to follow the world trend and rely on domestic tourism in the short-term period, the report concluded.
