Georgia expands insurance coverage for agriculture sector

The amount of agricultural land under Georgia’s agriculture insurance program will be increased from 5 to 10 hectares, Trend reports via the press service of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

“The insurance policy covers the following insurance risks: hail, flood, hurricane, autumn frost.The state agro-insurance policy covers 70 percent of all crops, except for vine crops, for which the coverage is 50 percent,” the ministry said.

The state agro-insurance program was launched in 2014. Under the state program, as of December 31, 2021, 2014, more than 136,000 policies have been issued, and more than 123,000 hectares of land have been insured.

The total insurance premium amounted to 85.5 million Georgian lari ($26.7 million), of which 57.7 million Georgian lari ($18 million) is co-financed by the government.
