BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 14. Georgia will increase its independence from wheat imports from 15 to 50 percent in a few years, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Otar Shamugia said during the "ministerial hour" at the Parliament, Trend reports via the Ministry.

According to Shamugia, Georgia is actively working on wheat growth promotion measures, and also provides the necessary support for wheat importers in connection with market diversification.

"Soon a new agro-credit program for grain growth promotion will be presented, which will significantly contribute to the wheat production increase," the minister said.

He also noted that a positive trend is observed regarding Georgia’s exports of agriculture products. The exports of agriculture products from Georgia in 2021 totaled $1.14 billion, which is an increase of 21 percent, or $200 million, compared to 2020.

Georgia maintains the exports growth trend in 2022 as well, the minister added. Georgia’s agriculture products’ export over the first quarter of 2022 increased by 5 percent year-on-year.
