BAKU. Azerbaijan. August 21. The key topic of the negotiations will be the settlement of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, Trend reports.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Doha on Tuesday evening.
Blinken is expected to be received in Doha by Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The key topic of the talks will be the settlement of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
On August 19, the US Secretary of State arrived in Israel as part of his Middle East tour, where he met with the country's President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to Blinken, Israel has accepted the US proposal to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip. On Tuesday, Blinken held talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who has called for an end to the conflict in the Palestinian enclave and to prevent it from spreading.
On August 15, a new round of consultations began in Doha aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages held by Hamas. A joint statement by Egypt, Qatar and the United States following the consultations noted that the talks took place "in a positive atmosphere." During the consultations, the United States, with the support of Qatar and Egypt, presented a proposal that would help reduce the differences between Hamas and Israel, the text states. However, Hamas said the new US initiative only takes into account Israel's interests.
