Maradona furious after fan incidents at game in Dubai
Diego Maradona lost his tempter and his partner Veronica Ojeda lodged a complaint to police after a war of words between wives and girlfriends of Maradona's Al Wasl club and supporters from Al Shabab at the end of their league match, DPA reported.
A club spokesman told dpa early Friday that Ojeda's complaint was directed against supporters of Al Shabab, who won the game 2-0.
The Gulf Times said that Maradona's Argentinian camp was furious at Al Shabab's Brazilian player Ciel which prompted insults from the Al Shabab side.
The wives and girlfriends were eventually evacuated by police with players and coach Maradona also rushing off the pitch to protect their partners.
"Some people are cowards. They only attack women and have no courage to confront men. This is the first time I am upset with the fans," the Gulf Times quoted Maradona as saying.
"If they are angry with me they should know that I did it (climbed the stands) for my wife because someone was calling her names. They shouldn't be angry with me they should be angry with the people who did this.
