Two explosions rocked Damascus early Thursday, Syria's state television reported.
The explosions took place at the al-Kazaz intersection in southern Damascus, the broadcaster said, DPA reported.
Witnesses in the Syrian capital said ambulances were seen rushing to the area, but they could not confirm whether there were casualties because the area was cordoned off by security forces.
"We heard two loud explosions that rocked the earth under our feet," a resident of the city who requested anonymity said by telephone.
The opposition London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed there were two explosions in the capital and said they targeted a security headquarters in the area. The explosions came a day after a roadside bomb hit a Syrian military truck that was accompanying a UN convoy carrying peace mission observers in the southern province of Daraa.
The blast wounded six Syrian troops, including an officer, while the UN observes escaped unharmed.
The UN team is monitoring a UN-brokered ceasefire that has been repeatedly violated since it came into effect April 12.
Damascus has been rocked by several blasts since the beginning of the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad in March 2011. The latest one was on Saturday when a bomb exploded near a security headquarters, inflicting no casualties but destroying nine security vehicles.
